Born in the Digital Revolution

I was born during the change from analog and electronic technology to digital technology, otherwise known as the Digital Revolution. My childhood I was, as Marc Prensky quoted “ surrounded by and using computers, video-games, digital music players, video cams, cell phones, and all the other toys and tools of the digital age (Prensky 1.1). In essence, that would make me Marc Prensky coined term a “digital native”.

As a digital native, born in the Digital Revolution, I can never imagine myself living without technology. I can never imagine myself growing up before the Digital Revolution. I believe technology helps and makes our quality of life and standard of living better. Most people think money and wealth makes people standard of living better. This is true, but it will always be limited compare technological advances. For example, John D. Rockefeller, founder of the Standard Oil Company is the first man to reach a personal fortune of $1 billion dollars and consider to be (when adjusted for inflation) the richest person in history. Although, I would never want to trade places with him. The reason is because his standard of living is less than mine or anyone else that lives in 21st century. I could do things much easier than Mr. Rockefeller. I could use my cable broadband connected home computer to read the news on the internet just as its happening or I can use wifi on my laptop in a coffee shop to send emails. Mr. Rockefeller would have to wait days to hear the news and even longer to send mail.

Technology not only makes our life easier, but also education more accessible as the Digital Revolution is linked with our current age known as the Information Age. Thanks to the internet, every student has a “library on their laptops (Prensky 1.3). Also, technology has help me become somewhat of a autodidact (or self taught). I have use technology to help me when educators couldn’t articulate to me in a way in which I could understand as Marc Prensky explains “lie at the root of a great many of today’s educational problems” (Prensky 2.1). With technology, it also has made education more convenient by way of online classes, as I'm able to “go to” classes anytime of the day.

As said in the title of the paper, I was born in the Digital Revolution. I’ am, by all means a “digital native”. I can never imagine not being surround by technology or anyone that lives in the 21st century.
